Ulysses ride to blue mountains

18 Jun, 2008 09:25 AM
THE Myall Lakes Ulysses branch recently had a most enjoyable weekend ride to Blackheath in the Blue Mountains.

Danny Toirkens organised the weekend away.

The Tea Gardens Hawks Nest members met on Saturday in front of the Tea Gardens Hotel.

We then headed out to meet the rest of the members at Karuah.

We had eight bikes and four pillions all up.

We made tracks to Broke for morning tea via Seaham, Maitland and Pokolbin.

When we regrouped at Maitland we were missing one bike rider and pillion. Gary went missing with Dave’s wife on the back. Dave couldn’t take her because he was riding a 250cc with no room on the back for the wife.

Naturally there were plenty of comments about Gary running off with Kath. They eventually turned up, apparently he had been unable to get his bike started when we left the garage at Karuah and nobody noticed.

We fuelled up at Broke before heading along the Putty Rd as there is no fuel available along the road anymore.

Our next stop was Kurrajong Heights Hotel for lunch.

The pub has had major renovations to the dining area and the food was great plus you get grand views looking across to the coast and Sydney.

This is also where we met up with our friends Hawksbury Ulysses branch members Sam and Jane who joined us for the weekend.

We had a very scenic journey via the Bells Line of Road to our final destination, the Ivanhoe Hotel at Blackheath, where we were staying.

We settled into our rooms and it wasn’t long before we were all in the bar discussing the great day we had.

Another couple of riders turned up late in the afternoon.

They had to work in the morning but were keen to attend the weekend so came via the highway after work.

The next morning saw us enjoying a cooked breakfast followed by a ride out to Govetts Leap which has picturesque views over the Grose Valley.

We then followed the Great Western Highway down to Springwood and another lookout (and butt break) at Yellow Rock.

This looks out over the Penrith Lakes scheme with views to Sydney.

Lunch followed at Windsor where we also said goodbye to Sam and Jane.

The afternoon was wasting away so we headed on to Wisemans Ferry and another butt stop.

Feeling refreshed we jumped on the ferry and all was going well until we hit some serious potholes just before Spencer and Kerry was nearly bounced off the bike.

She damaged her back and is still suffering.

Besides this setback it was a great weekend and we are looking forward to do it again.

If you want more information about the Myall Lakes Ulysses Branch feel free to contact president Graeme Patterson 4997 0799.

The group meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month alternating between Hawks Nest Golf Club and Karuah RSL.
