Woftam takes victory

11 Dec, 2008 02:25 PM
ROUND six of the Bulahdelah Twilight Soccer Championships went to plan on Thursday, December 4, with some close and some not-so-close games.

Cellar dwelling SoccerWhos had only six players but took it to Woftam in a tight tussle.

Missing their regular keeper Karen, it was Ryan Bensley who donned the gloves and saved several great shots before letting the easy one slip by.

New signing Tom Rietveld equalised for the Whos before Woftam scored again for the half-time lead.

Another late goal saw Woftam victors to the tune of 3-1. Most valuable player went to Roger Horton in the losing side.

Thrifty Titans had a full squad and it showed against the luckless RazorBacks, who took the field with no reserves.

Josh Little scored his customary goal and Jake Longworth played strongly for the Backs but they were out-muscled 11-1 by the Titans.

Hat-tricks to Tom King and Jay Reynolds, plus a double to Jess Shultz with King awarded most valuable player. Plough Inn took on Tea Gardens Hotel in the battle of the pubs. Tea Gardens were missing their female player and had to play with only five on the field whilst Plough Inn was only missing one from their roster.

Goals to Nathan Colver and Dave Morgan saw a 1-1 score at the break, with little between the sides.

A bad challenge by Chasse Ede found him in the sin-bin and Tea Gardens capitalised by scoring to take the lead with only three minutes to go.

Plough Inn were not to be denied however, with Bushy Carrall equalizing in the last minute. Most valuable player went to Nathan Colver for another non-stop game.

Table-toppers Down to Earth Paving took a 2-1 half-time lead over Dad’s Army before powering away to win 7-1.

Brad Keaton shored up his lead on the golden boot table with five goals but it was Jess Cook for the Army that took out most valuable player honours again.

Saligna were missing too many players to trouble Mayers Flat but they showed fantastic commitment despite going down 10-0. Ryan Talbot excelled in goals and his brother Jamin never gave up running, but they were no match for Mayers Flat who had seven players on the score-sheet.

A hat-trick and the most valuable player award to Mal Hunter.

Red Rockets had too much pace and skill for Bullrouts, winning 5-0.

Simon Spooner and Tim Sumner both bagged doubles with Sumner scoring the most valuable player as well.
