Women bowlers go away but still bring home first

TEA Gardens Women’s Bowling Club had two fine days of bowls last week.

The club pairs championships final was played on Tuesday, August 19, with winners Maynie Roberts and Val Hicks defeating Barbara Fakes and Vicki Rankin.

Social bowls winners were W Drake, J McDonald and A Mackenzie with runners up B Stephens, L Harvey, G Pezet and TJ Welsh.

On Wednesday two teams of fours travelled to Clarence Town Bowling Club to bowl in their invitation fours day.

The winners of the day were the Tea Gardens number two team of B Thrift, B Rhodes, J Younghusband and M Sargeant.

The number one team tied for second place.

On Thursday, August 21, the ladies minor singles championships started play.

Winners were M Oldfield defeated B Stephens, L Humphries defeated L Green, W Drake defeated M Smith, B Thrift defeated M Read, V Rankin defeated B Rhodes, P Skewes defeated S Leisemann.

Helen Doorey, Liz Kelly, Pam Skewes and L Green have been playing in the 22nd Blue Waters three day carnival at Soldiers Point.

With one day to go they have two wins and four losses.

There has been 42 teams contesting in this event.

September kitchen roster will be Bev Rhodes and Maureen Oldfield.
