15s in finals contention

14 Aug, 2008 09:05 AM
AFTER winning a brutal elimination semi final against Kurri Kurri two weeks ago, the Bulahdelah Bowling Club 15s have advanced to the 2008 final, after surviving a nail biter last Saturday.

Playing Shortland at Shortland, Myall River had to overcome the loss of two key players for the game, with other players carrying injuries from the Kurri encounter.

In a free flowing game, the score line was 24 each with 10 minutes to go.

Playing a calculated kicking game all day, half back Nic Clarke sealed the game with two pin-point bombs for centre Andrew Keenan and five eight Joel Evans.

With great anticipation both players were able to gather the ball on the run to score out wide.

The two tries were capped off, with a minute to go with a try to fullback Mason Hayne beside the post, for Myall River to run out winners by 36 points to 24.

Best for Myall River was centre Mitchell Aquilina with a committed display.

Second rower Matt Cookson was a power house in defence and Nic Clarke led the side with a constructive game.

Lock Tom King, aggravated a sternum injury early in the first half.

His effort in pushing the pain barrier was an example of the team’s determination. Guy Germon, carrying a shoulder injury, retuned to the field in the second half in a similar display.

Front rowers Sam Lucas and Andrew Herbert gave their best up front.

Point scorers were Mitchell Aquiliana (4), Tom King (1), Andrew Keenan (1), Joel Evans (1) and Mason Hayne (1).

Matt Cookson kicked two from eight.

Myall River now goes on to play Glendale in this weeks final on Saturday. The time and venue will be advised on Tuesday.

The game will be a repeat of last year’s grand final encounter with the winners going on to play minor premiers Swansea the following week. Contact 0427 602 197 for Myall River Junior Football Club information.
