THE Bulahdelah Bowling Club 15s are sitting in equal fourth position after a resounding 50 to 24 win over Kurri Kurri last weekend.
This followed a 28 to 8 win over Mallabula on the previous weekend.
With a semi-final spot up for grabs against Mallabula, Myall River was enthusiastic after a solid week’s preparation.
Strong work up front from props Andrew Herbert and Sam Lucas paved the way for the backline, led by new signing Damien Green.
Mitchell Aqualina was explosive in the centres, supported by Andrew Keenan and Joel Evans.
Tom King scored two tries, with one each to Damien Green, Nic Clarke, and Jay Reynolds.
Matt Cookson converted four from five with the coach’s points going to Andrew Herbert.
The trip to Kurri Kurri was the game that would decide the 15s season.
Beaten by Kurri Kurri in the first round, Myall River needed to win in order to remain in the semi final race.
Damien Green dominated from half back position.
Supported at hooker by Nic Clarke and lock Tom King the visitors dominated Kurri Kurri from the start.
Front rower Sam Lucas played strongly and Joel Evans had a power game at five eight.
The 15s will now play competition leaders, Glendale and Swansea in the last two rounds.
The garden master 17s were defeated by Cessnock 22 to 20.
Down on numbers and a disjointed week’s preparation, Myall River went into the game with no expectations against the competition favourites.
In a controversial game, which saw two send offs and three sin bin periods for Cessnock players, Myall River were able to go into the half time break with a 12 all score line.
Down two players with head injuries, the side’s effort in the first half was exceptional.
Racing to a 20 to 12 lead with 10 minutes to go, Myall River were unable to hold out Cessnock, who scored the wining try with a minute to go.
Myall River scored five tries to four, with the side unable to convert from five attempts.
The previous week, the garden master 17s were defeated by Waratah 38 to 20.
The 12s were defeated by Stockton 38 to 4 with Jackson Page scoring a try for the second week running.
This weekend, Myall River will host three games.
The 12s will play Wallsend, the 15s will play Glendale and the 17s will host Nelson Bay.
This will be the last home games for Myall River in 2008.
