THE Tea Gardens Hawks held their annual presentation night on September 23.
Hosted by 2006 major sponsor - The Tea Gardens Hotel, the event wrapped up a successful year for the Hawks at club level, even though success on the field was limited.
In opening, club secretary Neil Reynolds thanked the Tea Gardens Hotel for their continuing support.
Appreciation was extended to all sponsors, supporters and people who had assisted in any way throughout the year.
"Although getting a team of players together is a challenge in itself, getting people to assist in running the club, and financial support is a bigger one," Mr Reynolds said.
Prior to the awards, the players were thanked for their effort throughout the year. Finishing at the bottom of the ladder, the team kept hanging in there and had teams in the top half of the competition wary of playing them.
The players were awarded 'A' for spirit, however only scored a ‘D' for consistency. Awards for year 2006:
z Best Defensive Player - Luke Worth
z Best Attacking Player - Trent Murphy z Referees Best and Fairest - Trent Murphy z Supporters Choice - Ben Burgess z Players Player - Trent Murphy z Coaches' Award - Simon Judd z Jack Grace Encouragement Award for ‘Rookie of the Year' - Luke Tansey z Graham Hayward Memorial Award for ‘Player of the Year' - Trent Murphy
Two nominations for life membership have been received. Club stalwart Brad "Beefy" Victor was awarded life membership on the night. Neil Reynolds and any other nominations will be considered at the Annual General Meeting, which will be held in early November.
Appreciation was extended to Peter Worth who assisted in the coaching role, Greg Sanders as the clubs strapper, Geoff Scully and Ronny Brydon. Also, thanks to Jodie Genner, Cathy Gillespie, Ann Scully, Haley McMahon and Debbie Reynolds for their assistance in the canteen, and Libby, Brenda and Shonna for their effort in setting up the night and perseverance in the kitchen.
This year's committee have indicated they will continue in 2007.
Most of this year's players will back up next year, with an indication of additional player strength from other areas.
Calls for expressions of interest for the coaching position in 2007 will be made prior to the AGM.
