RUGBY LEAGUE
Tea Gardens Hawks
TEA Gardens Broadmeadow Motors Hawks will start the 2010 season on Sunday April 18 at Myall Park Oval.
The game will kick off at 2.30pm.
Newcastle and Hunter Rugby League Competitions Committees were in disruption at last weeks meeting.
A minority of clubs with issues about their grading urged the committee to completely restructure of the original competition draw.
In an unprecedented decision, the meeting decided to turn last weekend’s round one fixture into a series of trial matches.
The draw for the season will not be released until Thursday.
At this stage the Hawks opposition for round one is unknown.
The new format will see four 8 team competitions this season.
The Hawks remain in A grade based on early trial match form.
The club has reservations about the process, which is a perennial topic in the lead up to the competition.
“We have a very strong team to compete in B grade, however we will struggle against the more financial sides in A grade,” the club secretary said.
New initiatives from the club will see a membership draw held at the game.
A prize will be won if the member has a paid up club card at the field.
This prize will jackpot if not claimed. Memberships are still available.
Also the club will offer supporters the opportunity to participate in player awards this season. The club has set up a voting box at the ground for supporters to enter their thoughts on the player’s game.
A cash donation is requested with each vote, with all monies to be shared by winning players. There will be a prize drawn from voting supporters.
The club, on behalf of players and supporters, would like to wish a speedy recovery for president Rob Smith, who sustained serious injuries in an incident last week.
Thoughts are with “Dakka” and his family.
