Hawks let themselves down with lazy defence

19 May, 2010 03:26 PM
IN a close game, the Tea Gardens Broadmeadow Motors Hawks were defeated by the Cardiff Cobras at Cardiff on Saturday. The final score line was 40 points to 36.

The Hawks let themselves down with some lazy defence at critical stages of the game, while the Cobras led early with a simple try five minutes into the game.

The Hawks hit back with a strong individual try from Brooke Roach followed by a length of the field effort from Matt Browne.

With a 12 point to six lead close to half time, the Hawks failed to cover in defence, handing a soft try to the Cobras just before half time.

The second half was a torrid affair with the Hawks dishing back every thing Cardiff handed them.

Highlights were forwards, Kevin Elemes, Brooke Roach, and Trent Murphy’s no nonsense clashes.

Ben Feeney was strong in defence, and Josh Fidden troubled the Cardiff defensive line.

Matt Browne scored two tries. Trent Murphy, Brooke Roach, Jamie McSpaddn, and Jake Ridgeway one each. Matt Browne kicked five goals from six attempts.

The players’ player award went to Kevin Elemes.

The referee’s best and fairest was Nick Lagudi and the supporter’s award three points went to Ben Feeney.

Trent Murphy received two, and Kevin Elemes one point.

Best forward was Trent Murphy, supported by Matt Browne and Brooke Roach.

Best back was Ben Feeney, supported by Josh Fidden.

This week, the Hawks are at home to West Wallsend.

The game will kick off at 2.30pm at Myall Park. Last home games membership draw winner was No. 123. $200 went to lucky Richo.

This week’s draw will be back to $100. The $30 supplementary draw was won by No. 213, Tim Johnson.
