This year’s competition was announced last Wednesday night, along with the draw for rounds one and two.

The season opener will be against reformed club, Fingal Bay at Fingal Bay on Saturday 19, kicking off at 2pm. The following week the Hawks will host Dora Creek at Myall Park on Sunday, April 27, at 2pm

Two weeks ago the Hawks played newly formed club, Gateshead in the final trial match.

A sound display saw the Hawks win by 44 points to six.

Gateshead was unable to play the final 20 minute quarter because of injuries.

Among many standout players were halfback Jason Purdon and front rower Nathan Brooks.

Toby Coates return to the team was welcomed by the club and new signing Simon Spooner injected pace into the backline.

Centres Scott Peachman and Ryan Saunders worked on a combination, supported by Ben Burgess at five eight.

The back row of Trent Murphy, Josh Feeney and Ian Nutt were sound and front rower Clayton Bloomfield continues to improve. Hooker Rob Leslie will start the season of in good form.

Last weekend the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby League held a trial representative game at Waratah Oval.

Two players, Trent Murphy and Jason Purdon represented the Hawks.

A representative team will be chosen from the trial game to play in a state wide competition.

The club thanks its sponsors and supporters for their efforts.

Sponsors especially have responded well and the work of club officials has been appreciated. The Hawks revised 100 club kicked off last Friday with the winner number 65.
