Last Sunday’s qualifying semi final 44 points to 30 win against the West Maitland Red Dogs has advanced the Hawks to the major semi final against minor premiers, Central Wyong.

A determined West Maitland side had the Hawks struggling at times to maintain a defensive line. Going to the break with a comfortable 28 points to 14 lead, the Hawks were matched in the second half by the red dogs in a scrambling half of football.

Tries for the Hawks were scored by Ryan Saunders, Josh Simms, Jamie McSpadden, Trent Murphy, Matt Browne, Aden Callaghan, and Toby Coates. Matt Browne kicked six goals from eight attempts.

Awards: Best forward three points went to Brooke Roach. Trent Murphy received two points, and Travis Markey one. Best back was Tyson Jolly. Toby Ray two points, and one point to Toby Coates. The Jack Craig Nolan Players Player award was shared by Brooke Roach and Trent Murphy. Travis Markey received one point. The Waco Kwikform Supporters Award was won by Trent Saunders ahead of Travis Markey and Tyson Jolly.

In the elimination semi final, Stroud were defeated by Wangi. West Maitland will meet Wangi in next week’s minor semi. The Hawks will play Central Wyong at 1.20pm. Both matches will be played at the Lakeside sporting complex.
