TEA Gardens Hotel Hawks showed their stamina in a hard fought game at Myall Park last Sunday defeating the Gloucester Magpies. Leading by ten points to eight at the break, the Magpies increased their lead early in the second half with a try wide out. In a set play the Hawks replied with a pace try out wide scored by Chad Taylor.
Jason Purdon put the Magpies on the back foot off some speed work out of dummy half. He was rewarded with a try to get the home side back in front. Gloucester hit back to be within two points of the lead with ten minutes to go but determined defence by the Hawks held them out.
Lock Matt Browne sealed the game with a try on the bell and the Hawks showed pace and solid defence all over the park. In the game’s awards best forward was Travis Markey, best back to Ryan Saunders with referees best and fairest, Simon Spooner. The supporter’s award went to Jason Purdon and the player’s player to Simon Spooner.
This week the Hawks travel to Wyong. The game will kick off at 3pm on Saturday May 9. A bus will leave Myall Park at 12 noon, and pick up at the Tea Gardens Hotel. Cost will be $10 per person.
