THE Tea Gardens Hotel Hawks consolidated second place in the 2009 competition with a win against Stroud by 32 points to 14.
For the Hawks, Trent Murphy led from the front, well supported by Matt Browne and Brooke Roach. In the backs Tyson Jolly continued his build up toward the semi finals, and Josh Fidden stood out in a strong display. Simon Spooner had a sound game at fullback, and Ryan Saunders defensive effort was noted.
After the match, Brooke Roach commended his player’s efforts in reaching the semis, however warned that a more committed display would be required to progress further. Unforced errors and failure to complete set plays dominated the day’s game.
Awards: Best forward Trent Murphy. Two points went to Matt Browne and one point to Brooke Roach. Best back was Josh Fidden. Tyson Jolly two points and one point to Simon Spooner. The referees best and fairest three points went to, Trent Murphy with two points going to Brooke Roach. The Jack Craig Nolan Players Player award was won by Tyson Jolly ahead of Matt Browne and Trent Murphy. The Waco Kwikform Supporters Award was shared equally by Matt Browne and Josh Fidden from Aden Callaghn.
In other matches in the final round Wangi defeated Central Wyong, Gloucester and West Maitland played a 40 all draw and Abermain defeated East Maitland. In the final ladder Central Wyong took out the minor premiership on 22 points. Tea Gardens Hawks finished on 21 points, West Maitland and Wangi on 16, and Stroud filled the fifth position on 15 points. Gloucester finished on 13, Abermain 12, and East Maitland three.
Next weekend the Hawks will travel to Raymond Terrace to play West Maitland in the qualifying semi-final. The game will kick off at 1.30pm at the Lakeside Sports complex. Wangi will play Stroud in the elimination semi at 3pm.
