THE Myall River Junior Rugby League Club played away games in Wallsend and Glendale earlier this month with mixed results.
The 13 got off to a slow start to be behind by 28 points to 4 at half time but showed increased determination in the second half, to match Wallsend. The final score was 38 points to 12. Best for Myall River was Dominic Foley, Jack McMahon dominated in defence while Troy Finch played well, with some great tackling and Carl Williams filled the half back role well. Jackson Page scored a great try off a Carl Williams’ kick and Alex Bartholemew stood out with some well balanced running. Best and Fairest three points went to Domonic Foley, Jack McMahon was awarded two points and Alex Bartholemew one point.
Meanwhile the 16s faced a torrid clash against Glendale. The team was regraded up a division based on a blow out score line in round one. Against a much bigger and very physical side, the Hawks were gutsy in defeat. With the ball they looked good, however failed to wrap up Glendale’s off loads. The game was in the balance at 22 points to 18, however the home side wrapped up the game with four tries in the last ten minutes. Best for Myall River was Mitchell Aquilina, Steve Cumins had a strong game in the forwards and Andrew Keenan played well in the centres.
