ROB Smith was re-elected as president of the Tea Gardens Hawks at the annual general meeting, along with the majority of the existing committee.
Trent Murphy’s nomination for life membership was accepted and Murphy will play his 100th game for the club early in the 2009 season.
The committee unanimously accepted a proposal to increase assistance to the Myall River Junior Rugby League Football Club and promote rugby league in the Myall Lakes area.
A sign up day was held two weeks ago, with a successful role up. Several new faces attended along with last year’s players.
Brooke Roach was pleased with the role up and his appointment as player coach in 2009 has instilled a mode of expectation to the club.
His continued commitment to junior rugby league is also a valuable resource for the future.
Murphy has been named as the club captain for the 2009 season.
Pre-season training will start in mid January, with the first trial match to be played on the weekend of March 21 and 22.
The club is looking for managers and assistants for the 2009 season.
A Newcastle Rugby League innovation to address the falling referees’ resource has been offered to the club.
The proposal is for clubs to supply their own linesman to officiate at home and away games.
The position would involve a one or two day training course and would offer a match payment to the official.
The club’s major sponsor for 2009 is the Tea Gardens Hotel Motel.
In making the announcement secretary Neil Reynolds extended the club’s appreciation to the hotel.
“The continued support for the club has a vital role in maintaining rugby league in the area,” Reynolds said.
The Hawks 100 Club Christmas party will be held Sunday, December 21. The day will start at 2pm in the hotel beer garden. Chicken, ham and prawn salad will be served, along with free refreshments.
There will be drinks and treats for the kids, along with party games in and around the pool. Santa Claus will arrive at 3pm.
Members are asked to forward childrens names to the club via the Hawks hotline.
The 100 Club will continue in 2009 with new memberships available on the day.
The Myall River Junior Rugby League Football Club’s annual general meeting was less successful. A small contingent was present to form a committee however additional personnel will be required to continue the club’s viability into next season.
Addressing the meeting secretary Neil Reynolds urged support for the junior league however emphasised the need for commitment outside the committee room.
At this early stage, the club intends to field 13s and 16s teams.
Other age group combinations have been suggested however the club’s capacity to field more than two sides is limited.
Positions for coaches, trainers, and managers have been advertised.
The club will hold a sign up day on Sunday, February 1.
