Second win for Hawks

25 Jun, 2008 03:27 PM
THE Tea Gardens Hotel Hawks entertained a large crowd on the weekend, claiming a second victory.

Playing the Dungog Warriors for the first time, the Hawks won 34 points to 12. Acknowledged by the coach at half time that simple mistakes were putting pressure on the teams defence, the Hawks were up to the task in a scrambling defensive effort.

Fullback Simon Spooner’s last line defence was outstanding.

The warriors were held up over the line as many as six times.

Centre Mathew Browne scored two tries including a length of the field effort on the half time bell.

Rob Leslie, Toby Coates, Ryan Saunders and Jason Purdon also scored.

Toby Coates converted five goals from six.

For the Hawks the best forward award, and three points, went to Rob Leslie, playing in the number 11 jersey.

Two points went to Jason Purdon and one point to Myles Bowen.

In the backs Simon Spooner won the three points while Toby Coates was awarded two points and Ben Feeney one point.

The supporter’s award was won by Ryan Saunders while Scotty Peachman picked up two points and Toby Coates one point.

The referees best and fairest went to Matthew Browne while Ben Feeney was given the coach’s award; two points went to Matthew Browne and one point to Simon Spooner.

Jason Scarlet at five eight had a stand out game, supported by Jason Purdon at hooker. Winger Trent Saunders also played a strong game.

Next weekend the Hawks play Fingal Bay at Myall Park.

The game will be played on Saturday with kick off at 1.30pm.

The Hawks 100 club winning number in week 11 was 78 with this weeks jackpot $140.
