IDELLYIC conditions were experienced by the 70 competitors that entered the fourth annual Jimmy’s Splash and Bay to Breakers Surf Swim on Sunday January, 11.
Entrants travelled from as far as Sydney and Port Macquarie to test their swimming skills, with ages ranging from 8 to 60 years and older.
The Jimmy’s Splash, an 800m swim for those beginning their experiences in surf swimming, was popular among younger aged participants and this year two female competitors competed for the first time.
Meanwhile the challenging Bay to Breakers (B2B) attracted 50 starters.
The winning competitor completed the 800m swim, 500m run and 1.2 kilometre swim in 29 minutes, whilst other competitors completed the course in a more leisurely timeframe.
Following the B2B swim the Casio G-Shock Dash for Cash was held at the front of the Surf Club on Bennett’s Beach.
The club thanks Casio for their continued support of the event which is the club’s major fundraiser for the year.
Thank you also to the club members who volunteered their time, along with the Hunter SLS Jet-ski Team, Nelson Bay Volunteer Coastguard, Waterways and the Water Police who assisted our club in providing essential water safety.
A special thank you to Dr Ian McDonald, Dr John Estens, and Dave and Joy Agnew for their continued assistance.
