Leon Bobako, coach of the Myall Masters Swimming Club, was recently named NSW Masters Swimming Coach of the Year 2006 by Aussi Masters Swimming NSW.
The Myall Masters Club lodged a submission to the NSW governing body detailing Leon's effective coaching skills, dedication to the sport of Masters swimming and commitment to Myall Masters Swimming Club.
Leon is an accredited Masters swimming coach and fitness leader of Aqua Fitness and Group Fitness.
Leon runs a successful swim school at Metford and Tea Gardens, during the summer, where he teaches 'little people' the life skill of swimming.
Masters swimming allows Leon to extend his passion for swimming and coaching to ‘bigger people'.
"Leon's passion for swimming and in particular his commitment to Masters Swimming and its philosophy, lead him to establish the Myall Masters Swimming Club," the club's submission to Aussi Masters Swimming NSW read.
"Leon through his technical knowledge, sound coaching techniques and personal attributes has assisted members to improve their level of performance."
Members of the Myall Masters gathered at the Tea Gardens Hotel to honour Leon and see him presented with his award.
Peter Brown, club president, welcomed members and congratulated Leon on their behalf.
Leon's wife, Rhonda, was given the joy of mapping some of Leon's swimming and coaching journey, 45 years is a long trip.
The night was capped off when Leon won a $100 meal and show voucher, generously donated by Acito's Café at Hawks Nest.
Leon is now in the running, or is that swimming, for Australian Coach of the Year.
