A TEAM of seven entered the Raymond Terrace Masters Carnival on Saturday, December 9.
Two of our swimmers, Desley and Bob Voigt had to withdraw on the day due to the arrival of their first grandchild.
Luckily the Voigt's went to welcome and hold their new grandson because they would have drowned at the carnival, due to their huge smiles making it impossible to close their mouth.
Congratulations to the new grandparents, we share in your joy!
The Raymond Terrace Carnival was attended by 168 swimmers from 27 clubs.
The Myall Masters Club recorded the following great results:
Barb Gurr: 45-49 yrs - 1st in 200m individual medley, 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle.
Barb's efforts gave the club a perfect 30 points in the interclub pointscore competition.
Toni Petterson: 45-49 yrs - 3rd in 50m breastroke and 50m freestyle.
Toni achieved personal bests in both events.
Leon Bobako: 55-59 yrs - 1st in 200m individual medley, 50m breastroke and 100m breastroke.
Carrying a shoulder injury, Leon did extremely well to record strong swims and add another 30 points to the pointscore.
Peter Brown: 60-64 yrs - 1st in 200m individual medley, 50m breastroke and 100m freestyle.
Peter achieved personal bests in all events.
Peter Kendall: 75-79 yrs - 1st in 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle and 3rd placing in the 50m backstroke.
Peter Brown and Barb Gurr have been preparing themselves for the Tea Gardens Surf Club's Open Water Swim in January with distance swims at Jimmy's Beach and Bennetts Beach, competing at swim meets and doing sprint work at club training.
Both are fit and strong and should do the local contingent proud.
The club has had strong representation at swim meets during 2006 and individual efforts have paid off.
Those members who do not want to participate in carnivals have achieved their own goals.
For some the achievement may have been to get into the water to learn to swim, finally get your face in the water after a lifetime of fear, swim 25 metres without passing out, increase fitness levels or gaining medals at State Carnivals.
As a club we celebrate everyone's achievement!
Masters Swimming Club is open to anyone over 20 years of age irrespective of swimming ability.
Come along to one of our training nights and see if you like it.
There will no training sessions on Christmas Day and New Years Day. Training will recommence on January 8 2007.
Fees are due for 2007 the amount being $57.50 and should be paid to Deb Bastian as soon as possible.
May the hope and peace of Christmas be with you all.
