Sharks win both grades

ON Saturday Karuah RSL Sharks Cricket Club celebrated a double with the Opens cruising to victory over Seaham and C grade a hard fought win against Wallarobba.

The opens batted first against Seaham and consistent openers Josh Sims and Brent Bills got them away to a solid start posting a partnership of 40 runs before being separated. This led to a steady fall of wickets and at 4 for 58. Brad Pinch and Ben Goggin with 28 and 29 respectively steadied the innings then Wade Cameron and Rob Wells combined in a 54 run partnership to build the score to respectability. The final score of 7 for 199.

An inspired spell of bowling from Mark Bills destroyed the middle and lower batting order, Bills finished with the useful figures of 4 for 34 from 10 overs. The Seaham total of 176. This win now puts the Sharks into the top end of the competition for the first time this season. C Grade.

The Karuah RSL Sharks C Grade played top-four team Wallarobba on Saturday. a

Wallaroba first battled against the Sharks attack which was led by Ned Jury and Trent Page.

Jury bowled sharply and with accuracy to pick up the top three batsmen. Page and Graeme Johnson combined to remove the middle order. Tige Ingram bowled a successful spell of slow bowling to mop up the tail. Wallaroba totalled 120.

The Sharks batting started with Tom King filling the opening role and added a usefull 24 with Sam Rees. Rees was joined by Ned Jury also in unfamiliar territory at the top end of the batting order, in conjunction with Rees added 67 for the second wicket and get the score within 30. Sharks managed to get over the line in 38 overs, Rees remained not out 77. The Sharks go into the break sitting in second place on the points table.

Cricket takes a break now until January 11.
