Highway attack

A MOBILE speed camera operator was left to lay unconscious by the side of the Pacific Highway after two men attacked him in what police described an unprovoked assault near Tea Gardens.

About 8.30pm last Tuesday police allege two men approached the man, believed to be conducting mobile speed operations for the Roads and Maritime Service, and hit him once in the face before hitting him again in the rear of the head as he turned to defend himself.

It is believed the men got out of a vehicle which may have been caught for speeding prior to the incident occurring.

The 54-year-old man from New Lambton was left unconscious by the road for 45 minutes before alerting police.

The only description the man could provide police is that one of the offenders had a thin build.

Paramedics treated him at the scene and he was taken to John Hunter Hospital with head injuries.

Police are still searching for information on the attackers and are requesting people to contact Tea Gardens Police Station on 4997 0244 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
