CRISIS: Bulahdelah needs a doctor.
MULTIPLE doctors may have to be relied on in order to address Bulahdelah's medical crisis.
The head of a workforce tasked with restoring full-time medical care for the town, the Bulahdelah and District Health Workforce, said the group is still looking to fill a two-to-three day vacancy that out-of-town doctors Nael Hussain from Nabiac and Rachel Coelho from Newcastle currently can not fill.
"We are trying really hard," the committee's chair Estrelle Lowe said.
Great Lakes Council, Hunter New England Health District, NSW Rural Doctors Network, Bulahdelah Hospital Auxiliary and the town's chamber of commerce are all members of the workforce which met last Friday.
While Ms Lowe, a rural health worker, didn't detail the specifics of the meeting but she did say the group would be issuing some news soon regarding progress on finding a new doctor for Bulahdelah.
"You'll be the first to know," she told the Nota.
"We are progressing with short term solutions to the crisis and are in the planning phase, before coming back to the community."
It is believed the group is holding discussions with relevant GPs, and has secured the services of Dr Coelho on a permanent part-time basis. She will remain at the hospital on Mondays and Tuesdays, while Dr Hussain will travel from Nabiac to work at both the nursing home and hospital on Saturdays.
There is still no doctor on any other day of the week.
The committee will meet again in October.
